Prompting with Purpose for Product X

Why Use AI in Sales?

AI isn’t here to replace sellers, it’s here to help them move faster, sound sharper, and focus on what people do best: connect. With the right prompts, sales professionals can use AI to generate messaging, summarize conversations, prep for calls, and brainstorm follow-ups. This can happen in seconds. The result? Less time writing, more time closing. Always Be Closing.

Benefits:

  • Save time on routine tasks (emails, calls, outlines)

  • Ignite new ideas for messaging and positioning

  • Personalize content at scale

  • Build confidence with draft-based support

  • Stay consistent with tone, product language, and value prop

Caution: AI is only as good as the prompt and the person reviewing it. Always verify for accuracy, tone, and brand fit.

What Makes a Good Prompt?

AI thrives on context. A good prompt is clear, specific, and tied to an outcome.

Think: WHO, WHAT, WHY and HOW FORMAT

  • Who is the audience? (Example: IT Director at a mid-sized retail company)

  • What’s the use case or pain point?

  • Why does this matter now?

  • How should the response be formatted? (bullet points, email, script, etc.)

Prompt Templates for Product X

Let’s give a few examples of different sales scenarios:

  1. Discovery Call Summary

Prompt: “Summarize a discovery call with a healthcare prospect who’s struggling with inefficient manual processes and high onboarding costs. Highlight how Product X can improve automation and reduce time-to-productivity. Write it in a friendly, professional tone for a sales team Slack recap.”

  2. Email Follow-Up after Demo

Prompt: “Draft a follow-up email to a VP of Operations who attended a Product X demo. They’re currently evaluating multiple tools, and their main concern is integration complexity. Position Product X as flexible and easy to adopt.”

  3. Competitive Comparison Snapshot
Prompt: “Create a competitive comparison between Product X and Competitor Z, focusing on pricing, implementation time, and user experience. Format as a table for internal use.”

  4. Objection Handling Helper
Prompt: “Help me respond to a common objection: ‘Product X is too expensive.’ I need a friendly, conversational approach that reframes the value in terms of long-term ROI and time saved.”

Do’s and Don’ts

Do:

  • Add context (industry, use case, role, urgency)

  • Ask for formatting (bullet list, summary, email tone)

  • Edit and personalize before sending

  • Use AI as a drafting tool, not a final voice

Don’t :

  • Let AI guess too much

  • Assume it’s always correct

  • Copy/paste without reviewing for tone and accuracy

Bonus Section: Before & After Prompt

Prompt: “Write a short LinkedIn message to a VP of HR in the financial services industry. They’ve recently laid off staff and are worried about overburdened teams. Position Product X as a way to increase efficiency without adding headcount.”

Before AI:

“Hey, just checking in to see if you’re interested in Product X?”

After AI + Your Edit:

“Hi [Name], I saw your team is navigating a lot of change right now. I’d love to share how Product X is helping HR teams stay efficient and avoid burnout, especially when resources are tight. Let me know if I can send over a quick overview.”
